al-Asila wal-Ajwiba al-Fiqhiyya (Arabic: الأسئلة والأجوبة الفقهية, full title: al-As’ila wal-Ajwiba al-Fiqhiyya al-Maqruna bil-Adilla al-Shar‘iyya) is a multi-volume textbook on Islamic jurisprudence by the Saudi scholar Abd al-Aziz ibn Muhammad al-Salman (d. 1422 AH / 2001 CE), arranged in a pedagogical question-and-answer format .
Background and Composition
The author composed the work while teaching Islamic jurisprudence at the scientific institute (Ma'had Imam al-Da'wa) in Riyadh, in response to requests from students who asked for a set of questions and answers covering their curriculum to assist in review . He initially compiled a brief set of questions and answers drawn from works of jurisprudence, and later expanded, revised, and refined the material over time, supporting the rulings with relevant textual evidence (adilla) and rationale (ta‘lil) . The author completed the drafting of the second volume of the text on Friday, 1 Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1385 AH (30 June 1965 CE) .
Method and Content
The work presents traditional jurisprudential topics structured systematically through questions followed by explanatory answers . To facilitate memorization and recall for students, al-Salman incorporated didactic poetry into the answers, drawing on verses from the jurisprudential poem (Manzuma) of Ibn Abd al-Qawi and its abridgment by Ibn Mu'ammar . The rulings are grounded in classical works of Hadith and fiqh . The text covers standard legal chapters, including ritual purification, prayer, zakat (which opens the second volume), and other subdivisions of Islamic law, spanning at least seven volumes .
Publication and Status
The author published the work as a religious endowment (waqf) intended for free distribution to seekers of knowledge, granting permission for anyone to reprint and distribute it provided it is done solely as a charitable endowment without commercial sale or worldly gain .
