al-Anwar al-Numaniyya fi al-Dawa al-Rabbaniyya (The Nu'manic Illuminations on the Divine Calling) is an Arabic work on Islamic outreach (dawah) compiled by Muhammad Ali Muhammad Imam, documenting the discourses and lectures of the Jordanian scholar Dr. Numan Abu al-Layl .

Background and Compilation

The material in the work originates from the speeches and lessons of Sheikh Dr. Nu'man Abu al-Layl, a professor of Quranic exegesis (tafsir) and Quranic sciences, and a prominent figure associated with the Tabligh movement in Jordan . Abu al-Layl obtained a doctorate in Quranic exegesis and taught at several Islamic universities in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the Faculty of Sharia in Qatar .

The compiler, Muhammad Ali Muhammad Imam, resided in the city of Irbid from 1984 until late 1987, where he regularly attended Abu al-Layl's weekly Thursday evening gatherings at the Western Mosque (al-Masjid al-Gharbi) and transcribed his lectures . He also documented Abu al-Layl's gatherings at the Pilgrims' Mosque (Masjid Madinat al-Hujjaj) in Amman, as well as speeches delivered at Tabligh conferences in Pakistan and Bangladesh . In compiling the text, Imam integrated older and newer material, removed repetitive passages, and aimed to preserve the teachings of the scholars of the Tabligh school .

Scope and Content

The book is addressed generally to Islamic callers and particularly to members of the Tabligh movement . Its themes focus on the methodologies, spiritual principles, and obligations of calling people to God .

Among the topics examined in the text is a thematic comparison between dawah and armed struggle (qital), outlining the historical stages of the legislation of fighting in Islam, its prerequisites, and the priority of peaceful propagation and persuasion before resorting to force . The discussions draw upon Quranic verses, prophetic traditions, and legal commentary from classical and modern scholars, including Izz al-Din ibn Abd al-Salam, Ibn al-Qayyim, and Sheikh Muhammad Umar Palanpuri .
