Ahadith wa Marwiyat fi al-Mizan 2 – Hadith al-Finah (أحاديث ومرويات في الميزan ٢ - حديث الفينة) is a monograph of critical hadith analysis by the Egyptian hadith scholar Muhammad Amr ibn Abd al-Latif (1374–1429 AH / 1955–2008 CE), evaluating the transmission and textual integrity of the narration regarding habitual sinning .

Background and Composition

The book constitutes the second installment in the author's critical monograph series titled Ahadith wa Marwiyat fi al-Mizan ("Hadiths and Narrations in the Balance") . It appeared after an eleven-year hiatus following the publication of the series' first treatise, which examined the hadith claiming that Surah Ya-Sin is the heart of the Quran . The author attributed this delay to severe health complications resulting from diabetes, as well as his deliberate methodology of avoiding haste in authorship .

The author traces his interest in this specific report back to his youth, when he frequently encountered scholars citing Nur al-Din al-Haythami's evaluation that "its narrators are trustworthy" ( رجاله ثقات ) . He noted that many students had long assumed such expressions by compilers like al-Haythami or Abd al-Azim al-Mundhiri implied that the chain was fully authentic, until Nasir al-Din al-Albani clarified the distinction and exposed the flaws of that assumption .

Scope and Method

The work focuses on the detailed evaluation of the hadith attributed to Abdullah ibn Abbas: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ مُؤْمِنٍ إِلَّا وَلَهُ ذَنْبٌ يَعْتَادُهُ الْفَيْنَةَ بَعْدَ الْفَيْنَةِ، أَوْ ذَنْبٌ هُوَ مُقِيمٌ عَلَيْهِ لَا يُفَارِقُهُ حَتَّى يُفَارِقَ الدُّنْيَا، إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ خُلِقَ مُفَتَّنًا تَوَّابًا نَسَّاءً، إِذَا ذُكِّرَ ذَكَرَ ("There is no believing servant except that he has a sin he repeatedly commits from time to time, or a sin upon which he persists without leaving it until he departs this world; indeed the believer is created subject to trial, constantly repenting, forgetful, and when reminded he remembers") .

The text was reported in collections such as al-Tabarani's al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and authenticated by al-Albani in his Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah . In this monograph, Muhammad Amr systematically dissects the chains of transmission, demonstrates their hidden defects ('ilal), and concludes that the hadith is weak (da'if) .

In addition to isnad criticism, the author addresses the matn (textual content), arguing that the grammatical structure of the sentence conveys absolute exclusivity ( مَا مِنْ كَذَا إِلَّا ), which would imply that not a single believer from the time of Adam until the Day of Judgment is free from habitual or persistent sinning until death—a meaning he deemed objectionable and foreign to established prophetic teachings .

Publication

The treatise was published as a single volume by Multaqa Ahl al-Hadith in Mecca in 1426 AH (2005 CE) .
