Ahadith Muntaqat min Samaat Ibn al-Shaykha (Selected Traditions from the Auditions of Ibn al-Shaykha), also known as ‘Awali Ibn al-Shaykha, is a specialized hadith tract (juz’) containing high-chained transmissions (‘awali) and selected scholarly benefits (fawa’id) preserved from the audition records of the hadith transmitter Ibn al-Shaykha (d. 799 AH / 1397 CE) .

Attribution and Compilation

The work compiles narrations received by the Shafi'i hadith scholar and transmitter Abu al-Faraj ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad ibn al-Mubarak al-Ghazzi, widely known as Ibn al-Shaykha . The selection and textual extraction (takhrij) were executed by the hadith master Wali al-Din Abu Zur‘ah Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahim al-‘Iraqi .

In Kashf al-Zunun, Katib Chelebi attributed the work’s takhrij to Abu Zur‘ah’s father, Zayn al-Din al-Iraqi . However, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani explicitly credited the compilation to Abu Zur‘ah Ahmad al-‘Iraqi in both al-Mu‘jam al-Mufahras and al-Majma‘ al-Mu’assas, describing the collection as compact in volume (latif al-hajm) . Ibn Hajar recorded that hearing this part from Ibn al-Shaykha marked the earliest hadith audition he took directly from him .

Transmission and Manuscripts

The transmission of the tract was preserved by later scholars; an early transmission chain includes Jamal al-Din Ibrahim ibn ‘Ali al-Qalqashandi, who received it from the judge Abu al-‘Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Umawi (known as Ibn al-Simsar and Ibn al-Mujmarah) and the female hadith transmitter Umm al-Fadl Hajar al-Qudsiyya, both of whom heard it directly from Ibn al-Shaykha .

A manuscript copy is held in the al-Ahmadiyya Library collection in Aleppo (later relocated to the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus under collection no. 310), where the opening title and the colophon confirm the extraction to Abu Zur‘ah al-‘Iraqi across approximately twenty small-format folios .
