Ahadith Muntaqa min Juz Ibn al-Furat Intiqa al-Alai (Selected Hadiths from the Part of Ibn al-Furat, Selected by al-Ala'i) is a short hadith tract selected by the hadith scholar Salah al-Din Khalil ibn Kaykaldai al-Ala'i (d. 761 AH / 1359 CE) from the broader hadith compilation of Abu Mas'ud Ahmad ibn al-Furat al-Dabbi al-Razi (d. 258 AH / 872 CE) .

Transmission and Structure

The work comprises thirteen hadiths in total . Twelve of these reports are classified as elevated substitute transmissions (al-abdal al-'awali), and one is a subsequent narration (hadith tali) .

The chain of transmission (isnad) preserved in the text links al-Ala'i back to Ahmad ibn al-Furat through a notable line of traditionists:

  • Received by Ahmad ibn Abd al-Da'im al-Maqdisi through general authorization (ijazah)
  • From Yahya ibn Mahmud ibn Sa'd al-Thaqafi by reading in his presence
  • From al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Haddad
  • From Abu Nu'aym al-Isfahani
  • From Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Ja'far ibn Ahmad ibn Faris, who transmitted the text directly from Abu Mas'ud Ahmad ibn al-Furat .

Contents

The selected reports encompass a variety of legal, ethical, and medical themes:

  • Supplication and Conduct: A prayer seeking refuge from immoral traits, harmful desires, and severe illnesses .
  • Prophetic Household: A narration describing the modest household items provided for Fatima upon her marriage .
  • Medical Treatments: Hadiths regarding remedies and hygiene, including the therapeutic benefits of senna (al-sana), black seed (al-habbah al-sawda'), cupping (al-hijamah), cooling fever with water, and the general principle that God sends a cure for every disease .
  • Biographical and Legal Traditions: An account of the illness preceding the Prophet's death, and a report regarding the marriage proposal to Umm Hani and the revelation of Quranic rulings concerning marital categories .

Manuscripts and Publication

A photographic manuscript copy of the text spanning three folios is held at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh . The text was edited by Abu Ammar Abd Allah ibn Dayf Allah al-Shamrani and published by Dar al-Rayyan in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, in 1413 AH / 1992 CE . In that edition, it was published alongside another selection from Ibn al-Furat's transmissions prepared by Shams al-Din al-Dhahabi ('Awali Muntaqah min Juz' Ibn al-Furat) .
