Ahadith fi al-Fitan wa al-Hawadith (Traditions Concerning Tribulations and Portents) is a hadith compilation by the Najdi scholar Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH / 1703–1792 CE), collecting prophetic traditions on future trials, civil strife, and eschatological signs.
Title and Scope
In manuscript and biographical sources, the work is also recorded under the fuller title Hadhihi Ahadith fi al-Fitan wa al-Hawadith allati Akhbara al-Nabiyyu ﷺ Annaha Satakunu Ba'dahu (These are Traditions Regarding Tribulations and Events That the Prophet Foretold Would Occur After Him). The compilation consists of approximately two hundred hadiths. It focuses on prophetic reports detailing future strife (fitan), trials that affect Muslims over time, the portents of the Last Hour (ashrat al-sa'ah), the emergence of the Antichrist (al-Dajjal), accounts concerning the Mahdi, the descent of Isa ibn Maryam, and other major eschatological events.
Structure and Method
The collection begins with Bab al-Fitan (The Chapter of Tribulations), opening with traditions that urge Muslims to take the initiative in performing righteous deeds before the descent of confusing, dark tribulations. It proceeds through thematic chapters outlining the progression of turmoil and end-time portents, and concludes with Bab fi Khuruj al-Dabbah (Chapter on the Emergence of the Beast). The compiler assembled these reports from the major canonical hadith sources, including the Sahih collections, the Sunan, and the Musnad literature.
Publication
The work was edited and published by Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University as part of its scholarly project to compile and document the author's collected works (Mu'allafat al-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab). In this university edition, it forms the eleventh volume (al-Juz' al-Hadi 'Ashar) within the hadith section (Qism al-Hadith), accompanied by source documentation (takhrij) and annotations.
