Ahadith Awalin min Masmuat Ibn Hamil (High-Chain Hadiths from the Auditions of Ibn Hamil) is a hadith tract (juz') compiled by the Hanbali traditionist Ibn Hamil (603–671 AH / 1206–1272 CE), gathering narrations with elevated transmission chains (isnad 'ali) and poetic selections transmitted through his personal audition chains .
Content and Structure
The work consists of a numbered collection of reports that Ibn Hamil received and read to teachers across various cities, including Damascus, Irbil, Damanhur, and Fuwwah .
The initial portion of the compilation records poetic verses on gray hair, old age, and the fleeting nature of life, transmitted with isnads tracing back to early figures such as Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, Ibn Durayd, and Abu al-Atahiya, alongside verses recited by contemporary figures like Izz al-Din Ibn al-Baghdadi al-Fariqi during his imprisonment in Cairo .
The remaining section contains prophetic hadiths and historical reports narrated with short chains connecting through prominent teachers and transmitters—such as Abu Musa al-Madini, Shuhdah al-Katibah, and Ibn al-Latti . The text notes parallel transmissions corresponding to narrations found in canonical compilations, such as al-Shama'il of al-Tirmidhi, the Sunans of Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah, and Sahih al-Bukhari .
Transmission and Publication
Ibn Hamil endowed his personal library of books and hadith parts (ajza') to the Diya'iyyah madrasa in Damascus . A manuscript copy of the tract has been preserved in the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (Majmu' 10, folios 111–117) .
The work was edited by Abu Abd Allah Hamzah al-Jaza'iri and published by al-Dar al-Athariyyah in Jordan in 1430 AH (2009 CE), printed within a compilation titled Kitab Suluk Tariq al-Salaf wa-Sab'at Ajza' Ukhra .
