Ahadith al-Shamukhi (also known as Ahadith al-Shamukhi 'an Shuyukhih or Juz' al-Shamukhi) is a collection of hadiths compiled by the Basran reciter and traditionist Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Muhammad al-Shamukhi (d. 443 AH / 1051 CE; another report gives 441 AH) .

Contents and transmission

The work is a hadith monograph (juz') consisting of prophetic traditions that al-Shamukhi narrated directly from his teachers . Among the authorities transmitted through in the text is Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Abbas, the companion of Abu Khalifah . As noted by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, the text opens with the hadith of Zirr from Abdullah: من غشنا فليس منا ("Whoever deceives us is not of us"), and concludes with a tradition regarding combining fresh dates and melon . It also includes other narrations, such as the hadith on mosque construction: من بنى مسجدا في الدنيا بنى الله له بيتا أوسع منه في الجنة ("Whoever builds a mosque in this world, Allah builds for him a wider house in Paradise") .

The text was transmitted down from the author through figures such as Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Bakir al-Farisi .

Manuscripts and publication

A manuscript of the work is held at the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (Majmu' 81, folios 18–23, copied in 630 AH; also cataloged under collection no. 3817), with holdings and reproductions preserved at the Manuscript Library in Kuwait and the Central Library in Mecca . The book was edited by Mish'al ibn Bani al-Jibrin al-Mutayri and published by Dar Ibn Hazm in Beirut in 1417 AH / 1996 CE .
