Ahadith Abi al-Husayn al-Kilabi (Arabic: أحاديث أبي الحسين الكلابي), also known as Juz' min Hadith al-Kilabi (جزء من حديث الكلابي), is a hadith tract (juz') compiled by the Damascene traditionist Abu al-Husayn Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Hasan al-Kilabi (306–396 AH / 918–1005 CE; also reported born in 305 AH), recording selected prophetic traditions received through his scholarly teachers .

Author and Content

The compiler, Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Walid al-Kilabi al-Dimashqi, was a notary witness ('adl) in Damascus and was widely known as Akhi Tabuk ("the brother of Tabuk," in reference to his brother, Abu Bakr Tabuk ibn al-Hasan) . Traditionists including Abd al-Aziz al-Kattani and Abu al-Walid al-Baji characterized him as trustworthy (thiqah), noble, and dependable .

The collection comprises hadiths and reports transmitted by al-Kilabi with their full chains of narration (isnad) from prominent scholars of the Levant, such as Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Khuraym al-'Uqayli, Abu al-Hasan ibn Jawsa, Sa'id ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Halabi, and Abu al-Jahm ibn Tullab . Among its well-known transmissions is the chain through Muhammad ibn Khuraym from Hisham ibn Ammar from Malik ibn Anas from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri from Anas ibn Malik, stating that the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca on the day of its conquest wearing a helmet (al-mighfar) .

Transmission and Preservation

The text was transmitted directly from al-Kilabi by his students; among the primary paths of transmission is the reading of Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Hasnun al-Narsi before al-Kilabi in Damascus in Jumada al-Akhirah 393 AH . It was subsequently transmitted from al-Narsi by the judge Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi al-Ansari, and from him by Abu Hafs Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Tabarzadh . Other scholars who narrated al-Kilabi's transmissions include Tammam al-Razi, Abu al-Qasim al-Sumaysati, and Abu al-Qasim al-Hinna'i .

Manuscript copies of al-Kilabi's hadith compilations and benefits (fawa'id) are preserved in the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus . The text has been edited and published under the title Juz' fihi min Hadith Abi al-Husayn Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Hasan al-Kilabi al-Ma'ruf bi-Akhi Tabuk 'an Shuyukhihi, edited by Mashhur ibn Hasan Al Salman (al-Dar al-Athariyyah, 2006) .
