Yusuf al-Hati is a contemporary Islamic researcher and author known for his study on Qur'anic history titled al-Inaya bil-Quran al-Karim fi al-Ahd al-Nabawi al-Sharif (Care for the Holy Qur'an in the Noble Prophetic Era) .
Scholarly Focus and Methodology
Al-Hati prepared his treatise on the Qur'an during the prophetic era for the symposium titled "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Care for the Holy Qur'an and Its Sciences," organized by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran in Medina . His research focuses on compiling relevant scriptural evidence—both verses from the Qur'an and prophetic traditions—documenting the attention given to the text by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions . In his methodology, he aims to rely primarily on authentic reports, such as those found in Sahih al-Bukhari, without attempting to exhaust every transmission pathway, while ensuring that the narrations cited in his concluding discussions do not fall below the rank of acceptable (hasan) .
Al-Hati organized his study into an introduction and two core chapters . The first chapter addresses introductory Qur'anic sciences, distinguishing the Qur'an from both Hadith Qudsi and standard prophetic hadith, highlighting the virtues of general and specific surahs, examining the communal and individual impact of recitation, and detailing the Companions who served as scribes and reciters of the revelation . The second chapter explores the Prophet's ﷺ personal diligence in receiving and memorizing the revelation, his directives to preserve the Qur'an against forgetfulness, and his instructions regarding the beautification of its recitation .
