Uthman al-Khamis is a contemporary Kuwaiti Sunni scholar and preacher known for his theological lectures and polemical refutations of Shi‘i doctrinal and historical literature .

Scholarly discourse and debates

al-Khamis has been active in inter-sectarian polemics, engaging in theological discussions and disputes with several Shi‘i authors and figures, including Issam al-Imad, Ali al-Kurani, Husayn al-Matu‘uq, and Ali al-Salih Abu Abd al-Wahhab . His primary focus has been the critical examination and systematic rebuttal of Shi‘i works addressing the history of the early caliphate, the status of the Prophet’s ﷺ Companions, and doctrinal differences between Sunnis and Shi‘is . Among his refutational writings in this area is Kashf al-Jani: Muhammad al-Tijani fi Kutubihi al-Arba‘a (Exposing the Offender: Muhammad al-Tijani in His Four Books) .

He also produced Waqafat ma‘a Kitab al-Muraja‘at (Critical Reflections on the Book of al-Muraja‘at), based on a series of lectures audited and published through his official educational platform, al-Manhaj . In this critique, al-Khamis disputes the authenticity of Abd al-Husayn Sharaf al-Din al-Musawi’s celebrated work al-Muraja‘at, which purported to document written dialogues between the author and the former rector of al-Azhar, Salim al-Bishri . al-Khamis argues that the letters were fabricated, pointing out that the book was only published decades after al-Bishri’s death and highlighting the extreme imbalance in the text, wherein al-Musawi’s arguments span hundreds of pages while al-Bishri’s alleged contributions are confined to brief concessions and inquiries .
