Sulayman bin Salih al-Thunayan is a contemporary Islamic scholar specializing in hadith and legal traditions (fiqh al-sunnah), known for his specialized scholarship on prophetic traditions concerning prohibited commercial transactions .

Academic Career and Research

Al-Thunayan pursued his graduate studies in the Department of Fiqh al-Sunnah and Its Sources (Fiqh al-Sunnah wa Masadiruha), where he presented his master's thesis titled al-Ahadith al-Warida fi al-Buyu al-Manhi Anha (Traditions Regarding Prohibited Sales: Collection, Sourcing, and Study), which was subsequently published by the Deanship of Scientific Research at the Islamic University of Madinah . In this study, al-Thunayan adopted the analytical approach of the hadith scholars (muhaddithun) in his legal deductions rather than detailing extensive juristic sub-branches (tafri'at); he structured his examination around defining each forbidden sale, drawing upon the primary authoritative texts of the major legal schools, articulating the underlying legal rationale (hikmah) behind prohibitions, and assessing contemporary financial transactions that correlate to forbidden sales forms .

He also authored Istidrak Ba'd al-Sahabah ma Khafiya 'ala Ba'dihim min al-Sunan Jam'an wa Dirasah (Compendium and Study of the Companions' Rectifications of Traditions Overlooked by Others), which was published by the Islamic University of Madinah in 1429 AH .
