Sulayman al-Jar Allah, fully named Sulayman ibn Muhammad al-Jar Allah, is a contemporary scholar and researcher in Hadith and Orientalist studies. He is known for his bibliographical monograph Juhud al-Istishraq al-Rusi fi Majal al-Sunna wa al-Sira (Efforts of Russian Orientalism in the Field of Sunnah and Sirah).
Scholarly Contributions
Al-Jar Allah focused his research on documenting Russian Orientalist scholarship related to the prophetic tradition (Sunnah) and biography (Sirah). He identified this topic as largely unexamined due to various factors that limited the reach of Russian Orientalism outside its borders, despite systematic academic Orientalist study in Russia dating back approximately two centuries. In his monograph Juhud al-Istishraq al-Rusi fi Majal al-Sunna wa al-Sira, he structured the investigation into two primary sections: the first traces the historical origins of Russian Orientalism and surveys printed Russian books and journal articles on the Sunnah and Sirah, while the second inventories Russian archival repositories holding Arabic Hadith manuscripts and examines representative manuscript holdings.
