Said Ahmad bin Saghir Hindi (also known as Said Ahmad bin Saghir Ahmad) is a contemporary Indian Islamic scholar and academic researcher, known for his work on the intellectual influence of Western Orientalism on Islamic theological thought in the Indian subcontinent.

Education and Academic Activity

Said Ahmad pursued his advanced religious and academic studies in Medina at the Islamic University of Madinah. During his research, he consulted scholars including Mustafa Umar al-Halabi, completing his doctoral treatise on 1 Ramadan 1421 AH (27 November 2000 CE).

Scholarly Focus and Theological Critiques

His primary scholarship centered on evaluating modern theological developments in India through the framework of classical Sunni creed, culminating in his doctoral study Athar al-Istishraq ala al-Manhaj al-Aqadi al-Islami bil-Hind (1850–1950): Dirasah Naqdiyyah ("The Impact of Orientalism on Islamic Creedal Methodology in India (1850–1950): A Critical Study"). In this research, he documented the theological methods prevailing in India before the rise of Orientalism—distinguishing between the Sunni approach, the dialectical theological approaches of the Ash'ari and Maturidi schools, and Shi'ite trends—and contrasted them with the methodologies introduced during the colonial period.

He categorized the investigative methods propagated by Orientalists in India, including comparative religious studies shaped by Christian theological polemics, historical criticism, materialistic rationalism, and evolutionary models. His analysis addressed how the adoption of these external methods influenced modern Indian thinkers and contributed to the rise of new doctrinal positions and groups such as the Ahmadiyya (Qadiyaniyyah) and the rejectors of prophetic hadith (munkiru al-sunnah). He also examined the resultant shifts across core theological doctrines, specifically the nature of the divine, prophethood and miracles, and belief in the unseen (al-ghayb), and advocated establishing academic programs dedicated to Occidentalism (al-istighrab) to analyze westernized intellectual trends.
