Muhammad Muhammad Abu Musa is an Egyptian scholar of Arabic rhetoric (balaghah) and literary criticism, known for his studies on Quranic style and semantic syntax.
Scholarly Contribution
Abu Musa specialized in the analytical study of Arabic rhetoric (balaghah), with a particular focus on the semantics of syntactic structures (ilm al-maani) and the rhetorical inimitability (i'jaz) of the Quran. In his treatise Khasais al-Tarakib: Dirasah Tahliliyyah li-Masail Ilm al-Maani ("Characteristics of Structures: An Analytical Study of the Issues of the Science of Meanings"), he examined the functional dimensions of Arabic phrasing through which expression accords with situational contexts and psychological states, differentiating rhetorical syntactic analysis from formal grammatical correctness.
His scholarship also addressed classical Quranic exegesis and rhetorical heritage, notably examining stylistic analysis in al-Balaghah al-Qur'aniyyah fi Tafsir al-Zamakhshari wa-Atharuha fi al-Dirasat al-Balaghiyyah ("Quranic Rhetoric in the Exegesis of al-Zamakhshari and Its Impact on Rhetorical Studies"). In the field of figurative expression and literary imagery, he authored al-Taswir al-Bayani ("Rhetorical Imagery").
