Muhammad Jawda Fayyad is an author and poet best known for his didactic poetic work on the prophetic biography, al-Qawafi al-Nadiyya fi al-Sira al-Muhammadiyya (also titled al-Qawafi al-Nadiyya fi al-Sira al-Nabawiyya) .
Literary and Scholarly Contribution
Fayyad composed the prophetic biography in verse using the classical rajaz meter (baḥr al-rajaz) with varied rhymes across different sections, aiming to facilitate the memorization and comprehension of the Prophet's life and lessons without verbal complexity or artificial poetic constraint . Drawing from authoritative biographical sources, he organized the poem into distinct chronological and thematic headings covering historical events in detail, and concluded the work with an exposition of the character and physical traits (shamāʾil) of the Prophet . He spent twelve years composing, revising, and verifying the verses before bringing the work to its final form .
Reception
His poetic presentation of the prophetic biography received commendations for combining scientific rigor with literary accessibility, notably from Sayf Rajab Qazamil, former dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University in Tanta, and from the scholar Umar Abd al-Rahman Adam .
