Muhammad bin Sidi Muhammad al-Amin is a contemporary Mauritanian scholar and specialist in Quranic sciences, recitation (tajwid), and variant readings (Qira'at) who served as an associate professor at the College of the Holy Quran at the Islamic University of Madinah .
Academic Career and Scholarship
Al-Amin taught postgraduate courses in the College of the Holy Quran at the Islamic University of Madinah, including the methodology of Quranic readers (manāhij al-qurrāʾ) . His scholarly contributions center on the transmission and phonetic execution of the Quranic text. In his treatise al-Wajīz fī Ḥukm Tajwīd al-Kitāb al-ʿAzīz ("The Concise Treatise on the Legal Ruling of Reciting the Mighty Book with Tajwid"), published in the journal of the Islamic University of Madinah in 1423 AH (2002 CE), he argued that while the theoretical study of tajwid constitutes a communal obligation (farḍ kifāyah), the practical application of its rules during recitation—both within and outside ritual prayer—is an individual obligation (farḍ ʿayn) rooted in unbroken consensus and transmission . He also edited Ahmad ibn Mustafa Tashkubrizadah's commentary on the Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, which was published in 1421 AH (2001 CE) by the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex .
