Academic Career and Research

His full name is Muhammad bin Abd al-Aziz bin Muhammad al-Shaya. He pursued higher academic studies in theology at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, joining the Department of Creed and Contemporary Ideologies (Qism al-Aqidah wa-al-Madhahib al-Muasirah). There, he completed his master's thesis under the title Ara Ibn Hajar al-Haytami al-Itiqadiyya: Ard wa-Taqwim fi Daw Aqidat al-Salaf ("The Theological Views of Ibn Hajar al-Haytami: Presentation and Evaluation in Light of the Creed of the Salaf"). The thesis received an excellent (mumtaz) distinction with an official recommendation for publication and institutional exchange, and was subsequently published in Riyadh in 1427 AH (2006 CE).

Al-Shaya's scholarly research focuses on late medieval theological developments, particularly the intersection of Ash'arite theology and Sufism among leading jurists of the later Islamic centuries. In his study of al-Haytami, he surveyed the author's published works and manuscripts to examine his doctrinal stances, criticisms of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, and contentious devotional practices, assessing them against the creedal framework of early Sunni scholarship (al-Salaf).
