Academic Career and Scholarship

al-Khudayri serves as a faculty member at King Saud University. His scholarly work focuses on foundational principles of exegesis (usul al-tafsir), lexical clarification of uncommon Quranic vocabulary (gharib al-Quran), thematic exegesis, and the study of inter-verse and inter-surah correlations (ilm al-munasabat).

In the field of exegetical methodology, al-Khudayri authored al-Ijma' fi al-Tafsir ("Consensus in Exegesis"), an analytical study examining the theoretical definitions, authority, and application of scholarly consensus in interpreting the Quran. He also composed al-Siraj fi Bayan Gharib al-Quran, drawing upon both classical and contemporary reference works to present simplified, direct definitions of difficult Quranic vocabulary, unifying divergent interpretations into cohesive formulations or preferring the strongest opinion. In the area of manuscript verification and critical editing, he participated in the multi-scholar academic edition of al-Tafsir al-Basit by al-Wahidi, editing a portion of the text covering Surat al-Baqarah.
