Muhammad al-Thuwayni is a contemporary Saudi scholar and specialist in Islamic propagation (da'wah), known for his treatise Min Wasa'il al-Da'wah (Among the Means of Islamic Propagation) and his biographical study of Salih al-Bulayhi.

Background and Lineage

His full name is Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Salih ibn Abd Allah ibn Farraj al-Thuwayni. He belongs to the al-Thuwayni family of al-Muraydasiyyah near Buraydah, a branch of the al-Fayiz family tracing its lineage to the al-Fadl (or al-Fudayl) section of the Ja'afirah from the Anazah tribe.

Education and Academic Work

Al-Thuwayni completed his undergraduate studies in 1410 AH (c. 1989/1990 CE) in the Department of Da'wah at the Qassim branch of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. He earned his master's degree in 1414–1415 AH (c. 1993–1995 CE) with a thesis focused on al-Awza'i.

He pursued his doctoral research at the College of Da'wah in Medina, affiliated with Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, preparing a dissertation on the scholarly and missionary efforts of Shaykh Salih al-Ibrahim al-Bulayhi. The dissertation was supervised by Dr. Salih ibn Muhammad al-Hasan. His defense committee comprised his supervisor, Dr. Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Salman, and Muhammad ibn Nasir al-Ubudi; the defense took place at the college in Medina before a large audience and was broadcast on television.

Al-Thuwayni subsequently published his doctoral dissertation as a monograph on Shaykh al-Bulayhi, accompanied by an introductory preface written by al-Ubudi. Al-Ubudi commended the work for its pioneering contribution, noting that it documented biographical profiles for several regional scholars and students of knowledge whose biographies were otherwise unrecorded, alongside chronicling the learning circles and teaching activities surrounding al-Bulayhi.
