Muhammad al-Sayyid al-Julaynd is a contemporary academic and scholar of Islamic philosophy and theology known for his studies on Islamic thought and his critical editions of classical theological and exegetical texts .

Scholarly Contributions and Research

Al-Julaynd's scholarly work focuses on Islamic theology (kalam), philosophy, and Quranic exegesis. He explored ethical and philosophical dilemmas in Islamic thought, notably in his monograph Qadiyyat al-Khayr wa al-Sharr fi al-Fikr al-Islami ("The Problem of Good and Evil in Islamic Thought") . He also made substantial contributions to the study of theological terminology and concepts, authoring analyses of terms such as substance (jawhar), accident ('arad), corruption (fasad), and figurative interpretation (ta'wil) for general reference works on Islamic concepts .

A central dimension of his research addresses the hermeneutical method of Ibn Taymiyya. In his study al-Imam Ibn Taymiyya wa-Qadiyyat al-Ta'wil ("Imam Ibn Taymiyya and the Issue of Figurative Interpretation"), he systematized Ibn Taymiyya's critique and refutation of figurative interpretation . Beyond analytical monographs, al-Julaynd brought together and edited Ibn Taymiyya's dispersed exegetical writings in Daqaiq al-Tafsir ("Exquisite Details of Exegesis") .

In the field of manuscript editing, al-Julaynd verified and annotated early theological treatises. He published an edition of Risala ila Ahl al-Thaghr ("Epistle to the People of the Frontier") by Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari, providing historical commentary on the timeline of al-Ash'ari's departure from Mu'tazilism . He likewise edited Mishkat al-Anwar al-Hadima li-Qawa'id al-Batiniyya al-Ashrar by Yahya ibn Hamza al-Alawi, a polemical treatise engaging with the doctrines of the Batiniyya .
