Muhammad Abu al-Huda al-Yaqubi (b. 1382 AH / 1963 CE) is a contemporary Syrian hadith scholar and jurist of Algerian descent, known for his writings on Prophetic traditions, including al-Madkhal ila Sahih al-Bukhari.
Lineage and early life
He is Muhammad Abu al-Huda ibn Ibrahim ibn Isma'il al-Yaqubi al-Hasani al-Idrisi, born in 1382 AH. He comes from an Algerian scholarly family that traced its descent to the Prophet ﷺ; his great-grandfather, Muhammad al-Siddiq al-Yaqubi, had migrated from Algeria to Damascus in 1263 AH. His father, Ibrahim ibn Isma'il al-Yaqubi (1342/1343–1406 AH), was a prominent scholar and teacher in Damascus who led prayers at the Umayyad Mosque.
Education and teachers
Al-Yaqubi received his foundational training under his father, reading the majority of Sahih al-Bukhari to him through traditional transmission chains. He also studied and received licenses (ijazat) to transmit hadith from notable Syrian scholars, including Muhammad al-Makki al-Kattani (1312–1393 AH), Muhammad Abu al-Yusr Abidin, Abd al-Aziz Uyun al-Sud (1335–1399 AH), and the Damascene jurist and calligrapher Ahmad al-Qasimi.
Scholarly activity
Al-Yaqubi authored al-Madkhal ila Sahih al-Bukhari ("Introduction to Sahih al-Bukhari"), an introductory work on the transmission, manuscripts, and methodology of the hadith collection, which was published alongside a facsimile edition of the historic Ottoman Sultanic print of the Sahih in 1440 AH (2019 CE). He also authored Shamail al-Habib al-Mustafa ("The Sublime Characteristics of the Chosen Beloved"), a work on Prophetic characteristics completed in Rabat in 1439 AH, for which he issued a general license of transmission to students and readers.
