Midhat Al Furrag (d. 1435 AH / 2014 CE), fully Abu Yusuf Midhat ibn al-Hasan Al Furrag, was a contemporary Islamic writer and theologian who focused on Sunni creed (aqidah) and Islamic monotheism (tawhid) .

Biographical Background and Doctrinal Focus

Known by the patronymic kunya Abu Yusuf, he is also referred to with the regional nisba al-Misri in bibliographical records . He was based for a period in Riyadh, where he authored and completed several of his theological treatises, concluding one of his major works there in Jumada al-Ula 1413 AH .

His scholarship centered on classical theological debates surrounding the fundamentals of faith, the definitions and nullifiers of Islam, excommunication (takfir), loyalty and disavowal (al-wala wa-l-bara), and the theological problem of the excuse of ignorance (al-udhr bi-l-jahl) regarding acts of polytheism (shirk) .

Theological Perspectives

Al Furrag's writings engaged deeply with the doctrines of early Sunni authorities and the scholars of the Najdi tradition . In al-Udhr bi-l-Jahl taht al-Mijhar al-Shari ("The Excuse of Ignorance under the Legal Microscope"), which was prefaced and commended by Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Jibreen, he argued that an individual endowed with intellect, perception, and faculties who possesses the ability to seek knowledge is not excused on grounds of ignorance if they neglect learning the obligations of monotheism .

In his treatise Athar Hujaj al-Tawhid fi Muakhadhat al-Abid ("The Effects of the Proofs of Monotheism on the Accountability of Servants"), he maintained that the designation and legal reality of polytheism apply to anyone who directs worship to other than God, even if the person acts out of ignorance before the transmission of the message, though divine punishment remains contingent upon the conveyance of prophetic proof . His work al-Mukhtasar al-Mufid fi Aqaid Aimmat al-Tawhid ("The Concise and Beneficial Exposition of the Creeds of the Imams of Monotheism"), introduced by Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sad, provided an abridged synthesis of core creedal tenets, the conditions of faith, the rejection of false deities (al-taghut), and the boundaries between Islamic and non-Islamic territories .
