Majdi bin Abd al-Wahhab al-Ahmad (fl. 1426 AH / 2005 CE), also known by the kunya Abu Muslim, is an Islamic author and commentator based in Jordan, best known for his commentary on the popular supplication manual Hisn al-Muslim.

Life and Commentary on Hisn al-Muslim

Originating from the Levant and resident in Zarqa, Jordan, al-Ahmad composed Sharh Hisn al-Muslim min Adhkar al-Kitab wa al-Sunna as an accessible, concise elucidation of the invocations gathered in the original compendium by Sa'id bin Ali bin Wahf al-Qahtani. He completed the work in Zarqa on the night of Thursday, 27 Safar 1426 AH (6 April 2005 CE). In his editorial method, al-Ahmad retained the original text and its baseline references, inserted bracketed hadith numbers where they were missing, and added his own supplementary source citations (takhrij) and annotations, distinguishing his contributions with the abbreviation mim (م) and those of al-Qahtani with qaf (ق).

The commentary was initially published through al-Maktaba al-Islamiyya in Amman and Mu'assasat al-Rayyan in Beirut. Upon its release, al-Qahtani reviewed the published edition and issued a revised printing with critical remarks. While commending al-Ahmad's endeavor, al-Qahtani critiqued several doctrinal points where al-Ahmad had transmitted metaphorical interpretations (ta'wil) of divine attributes—such as the meeting with God, divine mercy, and divine anger—or fallen short in defining the categories of shirk and the full theological import of the testimony of faith. Al-Qahtani also contested a number of al-Ahmad's juristic selections, including his views on the conditions for the prostration of recitation and thanksgiving, the number of prostration verses in the Quran, whether a follower recites both the tasmi' and tahmid in prayer, and whether a woman's face and hands constitute 'awrah.
