Mahmud Saad Nasih is an author and polemicist known for his theological critique Mawqif al-Khumayni min al-Shi'ah wa-al-Tashayyu' (Khomeini's Stance on the Shia and Shi'ism), published in Cairo by al-Matba'ah al-Salafiyyah .
Views and Polemics
Nasih directed his writing toward the theological differences between Sunni Islam and Twelver Shi'ism in the wake of the Iranian Revolution . In Mawqif al-Khumayni min al-Shi'ah wa-al-Tashayyu', he contended that the doctrinal foundations of Ahl al-Sunnah and Ja'fari Shi'ism represent mutually irreconcilable opposites—comparing any attempt to unite them to combining day and night—and asserted that sectarian rapprochement (taqrib) is impossible unless one side converts entirely to the other .
He formulated his critique in response to Sunnis who had become sympathetic to Ruhollah Khomeini following the overthrow of the Iranian monarchy and the establishment of a Shi'i state . While explicitly disavowing support for the deposed Shah and denouncing his rule, Nasih warned that ecumenical slogans promoted by Shi'i proponents were deceptive efforts designed to mislead Sunnis into Shi'ism .
