Mahmud al-Sayyid Shaykhun is an Islamic scholar and author known for his work on Islamic theology and devotion, notably his treatise al-Ibadat fi al-Islam wa Atharuha fi Islah al-Mujtama (Worship in Islam and Its Impact on Societal Reform) .

Scholarly Contributions

Shaykhun presented his treatise al-Ibadat fi al-Islam wa Atharuha fi Islah al-Mujtama as a lecture at Mina during an encampment organized by the Islamic University of Madinah on Friday morning, 12 Dhu al-Hijjah 1396 AH, after which it was published in the university's academic journal .

In his theological discourse, Shaykhun posits that any discussion of ritual acts of worship must necessarily be preceded by the doctrine of tawhid (monotheism), likening monotheism to the foundational structure of a building without which devotional deeds cannot yield their intended spiritual or social fruit . He articulates monotheism as acknowledging God's exclusivity in attributes of perfection, majesty, and devotion, organizing its exposition through classical categories that begin with tawhid al-rububiyyah (the oneness of divine Lordship in creation, sustenance, and governance) .
