Mahmud al-Nahhal, fully Abu Shadha Mahmud ibn Abd al-Fattah al-Nahhal, is an Egyptian hadith researcher and editor from al-Qalyubiyya, best known for his biographical work Ithaf al-Murtaqi bi-Tarajim Shuyukh al-Bayhaqi.

Background and Scholarly Work

Al-Nahhal is based in Tal Bani Tamim in Shibin al-Qanatir, within the governorate of al-Qalyubiyya in Egypt. His scholarly output focuses on the documentation of hadith transmitters and the critical editing of classical texts. His biographical compilation, Ithaf al-Murtaqi bi-Tarajim Shuyukh al-Bayhaqi ("Bestowing upon the Ascender: Biographies of al-Bayhaqi's Teachers"), documents the teachers of Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi and was published with an introduction by Mustafa al-Adawi.

In manuscript editing, al-Nahhal has directed collaborative editorial projects. He served as the scientific supervisor for the research team at al-Rawdah Company in editing al-Bayhaqi's comparative jurisprudence treatise al-Khilafiyyat bayna al-Imamayn al-Shafi'i wa-Abi Hanifa wa-Ashabihi ("Disputed Issues between the Two Imams al-Shafi'i and Abu Hanifa and His Companions"), edited on the basis of five manuscript copies. He also supervised the Shadha Research Center in its multi-volume edition and study of al-Bukhari's biographical work al-Tarikh al-Kabir ("The Great History").
