Khaldun al-Ahdab (full name Khaldun Muhammad Salim al-Ahdab) is a contemporary scholar of hadith and a professor of hadith and its sciences at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah .
Academic Career and Scholarly Contributions
Al-Ahdab has specialized in the documentation, classification, and methodology of Prophetic traditions. His ten-volume compilation, Zawa'id Tarikh Baghdad 'ala al-Kutub al-Sitta ("The Hadith Additions of Tarikh Baghdad over the Six Books"), collected 2,223 narrations from al-Khatib al-Baghdadi's biographical history that are absent from the six canonical Sunni hadith compendia . He also authored 'Ilm Zawa'id al-Hadith ("The Science of Hadith Additions"), which served as the first foundational study outlining the principles and development of the zawa'id genre . In addition to teaching, he has transmitted hadith traditions and granted scholarly authorization (ijaza) to contemporary students of sacred knowledge .
Critical Reception
The Syrian scholar Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghuddah noted that al-Ahdab's 1407 AH treatise Ta'ammulat wa-Sawanih fi Qimat al-Zaman ("Reflections on the Value of Time") drew the vast majority of its historical reports, texts, and references directly from Abu Ghuddah's own work Qimat al-Zaman 'inda al-'Ulama' ("The Value of Time Among Scholars"), remarking that al-Ahdab had utilized his material extensively while omitting proper attribution to his source .
