Ibrahim al-Khuraysi (fl. 1412 AH / 1992 CE) was a Saudi student of Islamic creed and author from Buraydah, known for his theological commentary al-Tanbihat al-Mukhtasara (Concise Explanations).
Lineage and Background
His full name is Ibrahim ibn Salih ibn Ahmad ibn Abd Allah ibn Husayn ibn Samran ibn Jabir al-Khuraysi. His family, the al-Khuraysi of Buraydah in al-Qassim, traces its lineage to the Kharsa branch of the Shammar tribe. His father, Salih ibn Ahmad al-Khuraysi (1327–1415 AH), was a prominent Hanbali jurist, long-time imam, and head of the courts of al-Qassim.
Education and Authorship
Al-Khuraysi studied under Abdullah ibn Ibrahim al-Qar'awi, the imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque in Buraydah. Having memorized al-Qar'awi's theological primer on Islamic monotheism (tawhid), titled al-Wajibat al-Mutahattimat al-Ma'rifa 'ala Kull Muslim wa-Muslima (The Obligatory Knowledge Incumbent upon Every Muslim Male and Female), he proposed writing a concise commentary on it to facilitate comprehension for students.
Al-Qar'awi endorsed the project, and al-Khuraysi composed al-Tanbihat al-Mukhtasara Sharh al-Wajibat al-Mutahattimat al-Ma'rifa, completing it on 26 Dhu al-Qa'da 1412 AH (28 May 1992 CE). In his preface, al-Khuraysi noted that he originally intended to arrange the work as marginal glosses (hashiya), but opted for a direct running commentary (sharh) drawn from the Quran, the Sunnah, and classical scholarly works for greater accessibility. Al-Qar'awi subsequently reviewed the text and praised its utility in elucidating core creedal doctrines and clarifying doctrinal ambiguities.
