Life and travels

Arriving first in Alexandria in 602 AH, he studied under the Maliki scholar Ali ibn al-Mufaddal al-Maqdisi alongside his companion Zaki al-Din al-Mundhiri, and also heard hadith from Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Uthmani . In Cairo, he studied with the judge Abd Allah ibn Mujalli . He performed the pilgrimage and resided in Mecca in 604 AH, where he heard transmissions from Zahir ibn Rustam, Yunus ibn Yahya al-Hashimi, and Abu al-Futuh Nasr ibn Muhammad al-Husri .

In 605 AH, he arrived in Damascus, learning from prominent scholars including Abu al-Yumn al-Kindi, Chief Judge Abd al-Samad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Harastani, al-Khadir ibn Kamil, Abd al-Jalil al-Surijani, Dawood ibn Ahmad ibn Mula'ib, and Musa ibn Abd al-Qadir al-Jili . His travels extended further east: in Baghdad, he heard from disciples of Abu Bakr al-Ansari, such as Ibn al-Akhdar; in Isfahan, from students of Zahir; in Nishapur, from al-Mu'ayyad al-Tusi and al-Qasim ibn al-Saffar; and in Herat, from Abd al-Mu'izz al-Sufi . Toward the end of his life, he established his residence in Damascus .

Scholarly standing
