Hasan Muzhaffar Rizq is an Iraqi Islamic scholar from Mosul known for his writings on hadith methodology and legal theory.

Scholarly Contributions

Rizq authored the treatise al-Qawl al-Fasl fi al-Amal bil-Hadith al-Mursal ("The Decisive Word on Acting upon Mursal Hadith"), which investigates the legal probative value (hujjiyyah) of mursal narrations—reports in which a Successor narrates directly from the Prophet without naming the intermediary. In this treatise, he examines the differing positions among jurists and scholars of usul regarding whether to accept such reports unconditionally, reject them entirely, or accept them conditionally. He analyzes the underlying principles of transmission (usul al-riwayah) governing these disagreements, including the admissibility of narrations from individuals of unknown probity (majhul al-adalah), whether a reliable narrator's transmission implies implicit accreditation of their source, and the evidentiary standards required for narrator validation (tadil).
