Hamza bin Uthman al-Ansari (fl. 1425 AH / 2004 CE) is a scholar and poet known for composing al-Sadaf al-Hawi li-Durar Aqidat al-Imam al-Tahawi (The Receptive Shell for the Pearls of Imam al-Tahawi's Creed), a didactic versification of Abu Ja'far al-Tahawi's classic creedal text.

Lineage and background

His given name is Hamza and his father was named Uthman; his lineage traces back to the Banu al-Khazraj, one of the two main tribes of the Ansar. In his verse, he notes that his ancestors had long inhabited al-Suq, describing it as an abode of learning and guidance.

Scholarly contribution

Al-Ansari completed his versification al-Sadaf al-Hawi li-Durar Aqidat al-Imam al-Tahawi in late Muharram 1425 AH (2004 CE). Composed to facilitate the memorization and transcription of early Sunni doctrine, the didactic poem follows al-Tahawi's original prose presentation closely, consciously avoiding extraneous additions to the established creed.
