Abu Uthman Faisal al-Jasim is a contemporary Islamic theological researcher and author known for his polemical critique of the Ash'arite school, al-Ashāʿira fī Mīzān Ahl al-Sunna (The Ashʿarites in the Balance of Ahl al-Sunna) .

Scholarly Focus and Theological Views

Faisal ibn Qazzar al-Jasim has focused his research on Islamic creed (aqida), sectarian historiography, and contemporary theological debates . He composed al-Ashāʿira fī Mīzān Ahl al-Sunna as a direct refutation of Ahl al-Sunna al-Ashāʿira: Shahādat ʿUlamāʾ al-Umma wa-Adillatuhum by Hamad al-Sinan and Fawzi al-Anjari, completing the manuscript in Dhu al-Qi'dah 1427 AH (December 2006 CE) before its publication in Kuwait in 1428 AH . In this treatise, al-Jasim argues against subsuming the Ash'arite and Maturidite schools under the definition of Ahl al-Sunna wa-al-Jama'ah, maintaining that their reliance on speculative theology (kalam) and figurative interpretation (ta'wil) regarding the divine attributes contradicts the textual methodology of the early traditionalists (Ahl al-Hadith) and the pious predecessors (al-Salaf) .

Beyond his critiques of scholastic theology, he examined early sectarian movements in his historical study Haqīqat al-Khawārij fī al-Sharʿ wa-ʿIbr al-Tārīkh (The Reality of the Kharijites in Law and Through History) and addressed theological historiography in al-Taʿrīf bi-al-Daʿwa al-Salafiyya al-Najdiyya (Introducing the Najdi Salafi Da'wa) .

Reception

Al-Jasim's theological writings received commendations from several contemporary Salafi scholars and academic figures . His work al-Ashāʿira fī Mīzān Ahl al-Sunna was prefaced and praised by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Maghrawi of Morocco, Sa'ud ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Khalaf, head of the creed department at the Islamic University of Medina, and Muhammad Ahmad Lawh, dean of the African College of Islamic Studies in Senegal, who commended its systematic compilation of early source citations and adherence to traditionalist creedal arguments .

Published in 1428 AH (2007 CE), the book serves as a polemical refutation of the claim that followers of Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari represent Ahl al-Sunna wa-al-Jamaʿah in creed, relying on textual citations from early authorities to evaluate doctrines concerning divine attributes and theological affiliation.
