Fahd bin Muhammad al-Malik is a contemporary Saudi academic and researcher specializing in the translation of the meanings of the Quran and Islamic outreach (da'wah) .
Scholarly Focus and Research
Al-Malik's academic work focuses on the translation of the Quran and the strategic utilization of modern information technology for Islamic outreach . He was commissioned by the organizing committee of a symposium hosted by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran in Medina to contribute to its outreach track, for which he prepared the study al-Nashr al-Elektroni li-Tarjamat Ma'ani al-Qur'an al-Karim fi Khidmat al-Da'wah (Electronic Publishing of Translations of the Meanings of the Holy Quran in the Service of Da'wah) . He also authored a multi-part study addressing the permissibility and parameters of translating Quranic meanings, titled Nazarat fi Qadiyyat Tarjamat Ma'ani al-Qur'an al-Karim (Perspectives on the Issue of Translating the Meanings of the Holy Quran), published across issues 94 through 97 of al-Bayan magazine .
In his writings on digital publishing, al-Malik argues that the permissibility of translating the meanings of the Quran into other languages is settled by contemporary necessity, emphasizing that digital mediums—such as the Internet and CD-ROMs—offer cost-effective, rapid, and borderless channels to deliver Islamic scripture globally . He highlights that electronic dissemination allows outreach to reach remote populations that lack local Islamic centers or physical copies of translations, bypassing logistical costs and governmental restrictions .
