Fahd Abdullah Ali al-Khathlan is a contemporary academic researcher in hadith studies, known for his research on scriptural traditions concerning temporary marriage.

Academic Background and Research

Al-Khathlan completed his graduate studies at Kuwait University, earning a master's degree in the Noble Hadith and Its Sciences program from the College of Graduate Studies in February 2018. His master's thesis, titled al-Ahadith wal-Athar al-Warida fi Nikah al-Muta Diraya wa Riwaya ("The Hadiths and Reports Transmitted Regarding Temporary Marriage: Critical Analysis and Transmission"), was prepared under the supervision of Dr. Abdul-Muhsin ibn Zabin al-Mutayri. The defense committee was chaired by Professor Hakem Obaisan al-Mutairi, with Professor Mubarak Saif al-Hajri serving as the external examiner.

His scholarly research focuses on compiling and evaluating prophetic traditions and non-prophetic reports regarding temporary marriage (nikah al-mut'a). In his study, al-Khathlan assessed the authenticity of these narrations through both isnad criticism (riwaya) and legal-textual analysis (diraya), reviewing the historical context of its early permission and subsequent prohibition, legal rulings across Sunni juristic schools and Shi'i sources, as well as the social, psychological, and health ramifications associated with the practice.
