Scholarly Contributions

Al-Qahtani's academic research centers on prophetic traditions and the textual and legal analysis of hadith literature. His monograph Hadith al-Musarrat: Riwaya wa Diraya examines the narrations concerning the sale of a musarrat animal—the practice of deliberately withholding milking prior to sale to mislead the buyer—analyzing its transmission variants across the canonical hadith compilations and the legal disagreements among jurists regarding the buyer's options and financial compensation . The study was published by the Scientific Research Deanship in the Journal of the Islamic University of Madinah in 1423 AH (2002 CE) .

In the field of manuscript editing, al-Qahtani prepared a critical edition of Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti's treatise on adhering to the prophetic Sunnah and avoiding religious innovations, Al-Amr bi-l-Ittiba' wa-l-Nahy 'an al-Ibtida' (also titled Haqiqat al-Sunnah wa-l-Bid'ah), which was published in 1409 AH .
