Dayf Allah al-Zahrani (Dayf Allah ibn Yahya al-Zahrani) is a contemporary historian and academic specializing in Islamic history, local economic history, and the historiography of the Prophetic biography (al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah).
Academic Contributions
Al-Zahrani's research focuses on the critical evaluation of historical literature as well as the socioeconomic history of Mecca. In his study Maṣādir al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah (Sources of the Prophetic Biography), published by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran, he classified biographical sources into primary foundational works and supplementary genres—including geographical and literary texts—while analyzing the methodologies and critical standards applied across different eras of Islamic historiography.
In the field of regional history, he co-authored Tārīkh Makkah al-Mukarramah al-Tijārī (The Commercial History of Mecca) with ʿĀdil Muḥammad Nūr Ghabbāshī, published under the auspices of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also contributed to textual editing by establishing and publishing Ibn Taymiyyah's treatise on public property, al-Amwāl al-Mushtarakah (also known as al-Amwāl al-Sulṭāniyyah), based on a manuscript preserved in the Awqaf Library in Baghdad.
