Bistami Muhammad Said (also known as Bistami Muhammad Said Khayr) is a contemporary Islamic scholar and researcher based in Khartoum, Sudan, best known for his study Mafhum Tajdid al-Din (The Concept of Religious Renewal).

Scholarly Contributions

Said's academic work focuses on Islamic thought, theology, and the critique of modern reformist movements. His study Mafhum Tajdid al-Din was originally completed as a master's thesis and first published in Kuwait in 1405 AH (1984–1985 CE). He later revised and expanded the text from Khartoum in Shaʿban 1433 AH (July 2012 CE), after which it was printed in collaboration with research centers and religious endowments in the Arabian Peninsula.

In his scholarship on religious revival, Said articulates the traditional Sunni framework of renewal (tajdid) and its governing principles, analyzing historical paradigms of revivalist figures (al-mujaddidun). He contrasts this orthodox framework with contemporary modernist doctrines (al-ʿasraniyyah), critiquing Western modernism as well as early and later generations of modernist thinkers within the Islamic world. He argues against improvised renewal that distorts Islamic jurisprudence or discards foundational texts and the consensus of classical authorities under the pretext of higher legal objectives (maqasid al-shariʿah).
