Abu Hammam Asad bin Fathi al-Zaatari is a contemporary scholar and researcher in Medina specializing in Islamic creed (aqida), known for his compendium al-Athar al-warida 'an al-salaf fi al-'aqida min khilal kutub al-masa'il al-marwiyya 'an al-Imam Ahmad ("Narrations Transmitted from the Predecessors on Creed Through the Inquiries of Imam Ahmad").
Academic Career and Scholarly Activity
al-Zaatari completed his postgraduate studies in the Department of Creed within the Faculty of Da'wah and Usul al-Din, where he earned his master's degree with an "excellent" evaluation and first-class honors. His research plan was guided by Salih ibn Muhammad al-'Uqayl, who also served on his thesis examination committee. In this study, completed in Medina in Dhu al-Qi'dah 1429 AH, al-Zaatari compiled and critically evaluated 486 theological reports preserved across six collections of inquiries transmitted from Ahmad ibn Hanbal, including the narrations of Abu Dawud al-Sijistani, Ishaq ibn Mansur al-Kawsaj, and Harb ibn Isma'il al-Kirmani.
In textual editing, al-Zaatari established and annotated Ijma' al-salaf fi al-i'tiqad ("The Consensus of the Early Predecessors in Creed"), transcribed by Harb al-Kirmani, completing its verification in Medina in Shawwal 1428 AH. The edition was prefaced with an evaluation by Muhammad ibn Hadi al-Madkhali, who commended his scholarly effort in deciphering, correcting, and establishing the text on the basis of a unique manuscript copy.
