Amal bint Abd al-Aziz al-Amr is a contemporary Saudi scholar and researcher in Islamic theology (aqidah), known for her comprehensive study of theological vocabulary and concepts related to divine lordship (tawhid al-rububiyyah) .

Academic Work and Research

Al-Amr prepared her doctoral dissertation in the Department of Creed under the title al-Alfaz wal-Mustalahat al-Mutaalliqah bi-Tawhid al-Rububiyyah: Jam‘an wa-Dirasah (Words and Terminology Related to the Unification of Lordship: A Collection and Study) . Her project was undertaken alongside complementary doctoral studies registered in the same department addressing terminology across other branches of theology, including the unification of divine names and attributes (tawhid al-asma wa-al-sifat) by Asma bint Abd al-Aziz al-Salman and prophethood (al-nubuwwat) by Munirah bint Farraj al-Uqla .

In her academic research, al-Amr examined the linguistic roots and theological definitions of concepts associated with divine lordship according to Ahl al-Sunnah, juxtaposing them with the usages and underlying principles of differing theological factions . Her work critically analyzed the methodological approaches of theological opponents concerning religious phrasing—such as the employment of non-scriptural, ambiguous, or innovated expressions, and reliance on figurative interpretation (ta'wil) . She also evaluated classical reference works on theological definitions, including al-Mubin by Sayf al-Din al-Amidi, al-Ta‘rifat by Ali ibn Muhammad al-Jurjani, and al-Tawqif ‘ala Muhimmat al-Ta‘arif by Zayn al-Din al-Munawi . The applied portion of her study systematically categorized terms pertaining to the characteristics of lordship, proofs of divine sovereignty, manifestations of polytheism in lordship, and innovated terminology .
