Early life and education
Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Imran was born in 1390 AH (1970 CE) in al-Sawdah, near the city of Amran in Yemen. He moved to Saudi Arabia before reaching the age of five and grew up in Taif, where he completed his primary, intermediate, and secondary schooling. He then enrolled at the Islamic University of Madinah in the Faculty of Hadith and Islamic Studies, graduating with distinction in 1412 AH.
Teachers and scholarly training
During his university studies in Medina, al-Imran studied theology under Abd Allah al-Ghunayman and Abd al-Muhsin al-Abbad, hadith terminology under Hafiz al-Hakami, and narrator criticism (al-jarh wa-l-ta'dil) under Abd al-Aziz al-Abd al-Latif. After graduation, he settled in Taif to dedicate himself to research and writing. There, he attended the summer teaching sessions of Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz on Mondays and Thursdays and closely accompanied Bakr ibn Abd Allah Abu Zayd, regularly visiting his home to study and discuss scholarly issues.
Scholarly activity
Al-Imran focused on manuscript verification, bibliographic documentation, and biographical compilation, frequently directing collective editorial projects. He served as the scientific director for the multivolume publication of the collected works of the Yemeni traditionist Abd al-Rahman al-Mu'allimi. In collaboration with Muhammad Uzair Shams and under the general supervision of Bakr Abu Zayd, he compiled al-Jami' li-Sirat Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, a sourcebook gathering biographical notices on Ibn Taymiyyah. He likewise compiled al-Jami' li-Sirat al-Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, assembling biographical materials concerning Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya across six centuries of Islamic scholarship.
