Abu Bakr al-Mulla al-Ahsa'i (1198–1270 AH / 1784–1853 CE) was a Hanafi jurist, preacher, and poet from al-Ahsa, known for his didactic writings and his work on oneiromancy, Tanbih al-Afham bi-Ta'wil al-Ahlam.

Life and scholarship

Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Umar al-Mulla al-Ahsa'i—also identified with the family name Rahmat Allah and the nisba al-Basri—was born in al-Ahsa in 1198 AH (1784 CE). He was active as a legal scholar, homilist, and poet, authoring texts across Islamic jurisprudence, creed, and preaching.

In the field of oneiromancy, he compiled Tanbih al-Afham bi-Ta'wil al-Ahlam (also published as Jami' Tafasir al-Ahlam), an abridged compendium drawn from classical authorities that condensed the rules and interpretations of dreams into a balanced reference work. In theology, he composed the doctrinal summary Nukhbat al-I'tiqad along with its commentary, Manhaj al-Rashad.

He died in 1270 AH (1853 CE) in Mecca; an alternate biographical report places his death in al-Ahsa.
