Ahmad Shaghif (d. 1440 AH / 2018–2019 CE), also known as Abu al-Ashbal Saghir Ahmad Shaghif al-Pakistani, was a modern scholar and editor of classical Islamic texts who was active in Mecca.

Scholarly Contributions

Shaghif contributed to the textual criticism and verification of classical hadith and legal literature. In 1415 AH in Mecca, he authored Ithaf al-Qari bi Sadd Bayadat Fath al-Bari, a specialized textual study dedicated to identifying and filling lacunae (bayadat) left in printed editions of Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's commentary Fath al-Bari. In this work, he classified these gaps—attributing them either to the author drafting from memory or to copyists encountering illegible passages in the original manuscript—and resolved them by cross-referencing internal passages of Fath al-Bari as well as Ibn Hajar's primary sources. He also engaged with biographical evaluation literature, preparing an edition of Ibn Hajar's biographical dictionary Taqrib al-Tahdhib with annotations and additions.
