Research on Hadith Commentary Methodology

Abu Nuqta is known for his analytical study Manhaj al-Kirmani fi Kitabihi al-Kawakib al-Darari fi Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari ("The Methodology of al-Kirmani in His Book al-Kawakib al-Darari fi Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari"), which investigates the hadith commentary methodology of Shams al-Din al-Kirmani (d. 786 AH) on Sahih al-Bukhari . In this work, he examines al-Kirmani's life, scholarly background, sources, and motivations for authoring al-Kawakib al-Darari, as well as the verification of the book's title and its attribution .

His research details al-Kirmani's technical approach to hadith sciences (al-sina'ah al-hadithiyyah), including the analysis of chains of transmission (asand), modes of transmission, narrator evaluation (al-jarh wa-l-ta'dil), hadith extraction (takhrij), and terminology regarding hidden defects and nomenclature . Abu Nuqta also evaluates al-Kirmani's method of explaining al-Bukhari's chapter headings (tarajim al-abwab), textual analysis of hadiths, derivation of legal rulings across schools of jurisprudence, exploration of legal theory (usul al-fiqh), Arabic grammar and rhetoric, rare vocabulary, and theological expositions defending Ash'ari positions . Additionally, he documents earlier scholarly critiques of al-Kirmani's work, such as the reservations raised by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani in Fath al-Bari and Shams al-Din al-Birmawi in al-Lami' al-Sabih .

Abu Nuqta completed this research in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, 17 Jumada al-Akhirah 1438 AH (16 March 2017 CE) . At the conclusion of the study, he recommended producing a rigorous, manuscript-based critical edition of al-Kawakib al-Darari to correct typographic and transmission errors in existing printings, as well as conducting specialized comparative research across the major commentaries on Sahih al-Bukhari .
