Ahmad Mamur al-Asiri (fl. 15th century AH / late 20th century CE) is a contemporary Saudi author and historical compiler, best known for his single-volume work Mujaz al-Tarikh al-Islami min Ahd Adam ila Asrina al-Hadir (A Brief History of Islam from the Era of Adam to Our Present Age) .

Historical Work and Method

Al-Asiri compiled his historical overview to provide a concise, accessible survey of Islamic history for general readers without specialist academic training . In the introduction to Mujaz al-Tarikh al-Islami, he stated that the idea for the project arose from the need to bring together scattered historical accounts from classical and modern sources into a single compendium, observing that most existing historical references were voluminous, multi-part works consulted primarily by specialized researchers . He also articulated an overarching thematic purpose: illustrating the strength and prominence of Islamic societies during periods of adherence to religious teachings, in contrast to subsequent eras of division and decline .

The work is organized chronologically into major sections, beginning with ancient history from Adam and the prophetic missions prior to the advent of Muhammad ﷺ . It then covers the Prophet's biography and the establishment of the early Muslim state in Medina, the Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, independent regional dynasties across the Islamic world, the Ottoman era, and contemporary events down to the late twentieth century (1417 AH / 1996–1997 CE) .

The first edition of the book was registered under the cataloging of the King Fahd National Library in Riyadh in 1417 AH (1996 CE) . It subsequently saw further printings, including a third edition published around 1420 AH (1999–2000 CE) .
