Scholarly Focus

Al-Sharqawi's research centers on Quranic sciences and exegetical methodology. In his academic monograph Mawqif al-Shawkani fi Tafsirihi min al-Munasabat ("The Stance of al-Shawkani in His Exegesis Regarding Textual Coherence"), he critically assessed Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shawkani's approach to the science of inter-verse and inter-surah relations (ilm al-munasabat) in his exegesis Fath al-Qadir . Al-Sharqawi argued that although al-Shawkani explicitly dismissed the pursuit of structural coherence as artificial and ungrounded, he nonetheless frequently incorporated various modes of contextual connection throughout his commentary .
