Ahmad bin Said Qashash (Ahmad bin Said bin Muhammad Qashash) is a contemporary Saudi scholar of Arabic linguistics and an assistant professor at the Islamic University of Madina .

Education and Academic Career

Qashash completed his higher education in Arabic language and philology at the Faculty of Arabic Language at the Islamic University of Madina . In 1414 AH (c. 1993–1994 CE), he earned his master's degree by editing Sharh al-Maqamat (Commentary on the Maqamat) by al-Razi .

He pursued his doctoral studies at the same faculty, preparing a critical edition and study of Isfar al-Fasih (The Unveiling of al-Fasih) by Abu Sahl al-Harawi, which he completed in Sha'ban 1416 AH in Medina . The dissertation was supervised by Muhammad bin Mahmud al-Da'jani and evaluated by a committee consisting of Ali bin Sultan al-Hakami and V. Abdur Rahim . On 1 Safar 1417 AH, the defense committee awarded the dissertation First Class Honors with a recommendation for publication at the university's expense, and it was subsequently published by the university's Deanship of Scientific Research in 1420 AH . Following his graduate studies, he served as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Arabic Language at the Islamic University of Madina .

Scholarly Focus

Qashash's academic research centers on classical Arabic lexicography, manuscript editing, and dialectology. In modern dialect studies, he authored al-Ibdal fi Lughat al-Azd: Dirasa Sawtiyya fi Daw Ilm al-Lugha al-Hadith ("Phonetic Substitution in the Dialects of Azd: A Phonetic Study in Light of Modern Linguistics"), published in the journal of the Islamic University of Madina . In this study, he analyzed the phonetic phenomena and consonantal and vocalic substitutions preserved in classical Arabic sources for the dialects of the Azd tribe, observing that despite their extensive presence in classical grammar, lexicography, and Quranic readings, Azdi dialects had received less independent investigation in modern scholarship than those of tribes such as Tamim, Tayyi', and Hudhayl .
