Ahmad al-Zuman is a contemporary Saudi scholar of Islamic jurisprudence and hadith based in al-Qasim.
Biography and Location
His full name is Abu Abd al-Rahman Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim al-Zuman. He has resided and conducted his scholarly research in al-Lusayb, located in the rural outskirts of Buraidah in the al-Qasim region of Saudi Arabia.
Scholarly Approach
Al-Zuman's research centers on detailed jurisprudential investigations and monographic studies of specific hadiths. In his legal writings, such as Shurut al-Talaq (Conditions of Divorce) and Ahkam al-Talaq: al-Talaq al-Sunni wa al-Talaq al-Bidi (Rulings of Divorce: Prescribed and Innovative Divorce), he adopted a methodology based on examining scriptural evidences, identifying applicable textual proofs even if earlier jurists had not cited them for the specific issue at hand, explaining obscure terms, and concluding each discussion with his preferred legal verdict (tarjih). In hadith analysis, his monograph Isbal al-Kalam ala Hadith Ibn Abbas fi al-Qiyam (Pouring Forth Discourse on the Hadith of Ibn Abbas Regarding the Night Prayer) follows the tradition of single-hadith commentaries, collecting the various routes of transmission narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas concerning the Prophet's night prayer, evaluating conflicting narrations according to classical hadith methodology, and extracting its doctrinal and practical rulings.
