Ahmad al-Fayyad is a contemporary scholar of hadith terminology, best known for his specialized monograph on pattern-chained narrations, Mabahith fi al-Hadith al-Musalsal (Studies in the Pattern-Chained Hadith).

Education and Teachers

Al-Fayyad developed an interest in hadith and its sciences during his early upbringing. He was admitted to graduate studies at the Imam al-A'zam College for the Preparation of Imams, Preachers, and Da'is in Iraq, where he prepared a thesis for his master's degree focusing on the terminology and principles of pattern-chained hadith (al-hadith al-musalsal).

Among his principal teachers and influences was his paternal uncle, Sheikh Khalil Muhammad al-Fayyad, whom he considered his mentor and primary instructor. He also studied under and acknowledged the guidance of the scholar and preacher Sheikh Makki Husayn al-Kubaysi.

Scholarly Contribution and Reception

Al-Fayyad's scholarship focused on refining hadith terminology, particularly the technical categorization of narrations whose chains share uniform transmission phrases, physical actions, or situational states. In Mabahith fi al-Hadith al-Musalsal, he provided detailed textual commentary on classical definitions of al-musalsal, such as those articulated by Ibn Jama'ah. His analytical definitions and classifications of chain conformity have been referenced and cited by later commentators, including Abu al-Mundhir al-Minyawi in his commentary on Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's Nukhbat al-Fikr.
