Career and Research

Ahmad Abu al-Wafa Abd al-Akhar worked as a physician at the hospital of the Islamic University of Madinah, where he engaged with students and researchers and contributed scientific and medical material for university theses on Prophetic medicine and scientific indications in Hadith . He also served as a member of the Committee on Scientific Inimitability (Lajnat al-I‘jaz al-‘Ilmi) within the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Cairo .

Abu al-Wafa's research has focused on setting methodological standards for literature addressing scientific and medical topics in the Prophetic tradition . In Taqwim al-A‘mal allati tanawalat al-I‘jaz al-‘Ilmi wa-al-Tibbi fi al-Sunna al-Nabawiyya, prepared for a symposium organized by the Center for the Sunna and Prophetic Biography in Medina, he evaluated existing publications across popular, academic, and specialized medical formats . He emphasized that researchers in scientific inimitability must adhere strictly to the rules of Hadith scholarship—including precise textual attribution (takrij), verification of authenticity, and reliance on classical commentaries—while cautioning against citing weak narrations or paraphrasing traditions inaccurately . To systematize these efforts, he proposed establishing a dedicated guidance bureau under the Center for the Sunna and Prophetic Biography in Medina to coordinate scientific studies on Hadith .
